The Blessing

Dan Baldessari

Dan Baldessari, The Blessing, 2020, Oil on canvas, 24 x 36 inches.

Golden fields welcome the viewer into Dan Baldessari’s vision of Pikes Peak. Representational paintings, such as The Blessing, often carry hidden stories, as they are frequently painted for small audiences that are already acquainted with the moment or subject presented. This exhibit gives a unique opportunity to share the personal story behind this painting with a wider audience and to remind viewers of the gift of relationships that transcend time and of the positive, eternal impact that these brief moments on earth afford us now and in eternity.

For Baldessari, The Blessing is a depiction of the value of deliberately setting aside time to spend specifically with his adult son, to grow and strengthen their connection and relationship. He writes:

While camping on the west side of Pikes Peak, I sat with my son, Chris, on the rock in the field in this painting, as we took in the magnificent view. I was inspired by the Holy Spirit to use that time and breathtaking location to pray and pass God’s blessing to him for his life and future. It was a precious, unforgettable gift of time well spent in God’s presence.
